Spring Decorating Tips: Easy Ways to Refresh Your Home

Spring has sprung, and if you’re already throwing open your windows and giving your home a thorough spring clean, the chances are you’re also turning your thoughts to refreshing your home decor to draw a line under winter. With the days getting longer and the sun’s rays finally bringing some warmth, now’s a great time to enjoy these effects indoors as well as out by breathing spring-infused life into your interiors. Here are some spring decorating tips that will bring new-season rejuvenation without having to overhaul your whole space.

Update Your Soft Furnishings

Textiles are the fastest way to refresh a space, with colour, texture and prints all playing a part in getting your space spring-ready. It’s time to fold away those velvet cushions and heavy winter wool or faux fur throws, replacing them with lighter layers and fabrics. Your choice of colour palette will work wonders at switching into spring mode, too.

Fabric-wise, breezy linen and cotton work especially well – choose lightweight weaves for a crisp, breathable feel that will instantly conjure up a sunny day. Pick throws with details such as fringing, embroidery or delicate trims to add interest, such as our Pannar Throw and Sibylla Embroidered Throw, and apply the same principle to rugs – as on our Marquess Rug.

The moody winter hues have had their day; the time has come for soft pastels and floral and botanical prints. Cushion covers like our Suleyman in sage will instantly imbue your space with uplifting energy while mirroring what’s happening outdoors. Set busier patterns against calm neutrals – think warm whites and muted earth tones, which will recreate a sunlit look. Even switching a lampshade will make a difference, with the warm neutral of our Merian Lampshade scattering the light in a brighter tone.

Sensescaping

Springtime decorating doesn’t stop at aesthetics – it considers other senses too, the aim being to create a space that feels, sounds and smells as good as it looks. Think about how you can make the room more appealing to your sense of…

Touch – introduce a range of luxurious textures to turn the room into a tactile retreat. Natural materials such as rattan and linen bring a light and airy feel, while decadent fabrics like leather and silk will add to the depth and indulgence. Try placing our Bennet Leather Backgammon Set on a coffee table and draping a linen throw over the back of a sofa or armchair.

Sound – thick floor coverings like our Sareta Rug, scatter cushions such as our Archibald Cushion and upholstered furniture like our Large George Bouclé Swivel Armchair will help muffle echoes and absorb noise to create a calming space – one that sets a renewed sense of tranquillity against the energy of springtime.

Scent – fragrance has the power to transport you instantly, bringing up memories and emotions that can turn a space into a sensory escape. For a springtime scent, choose the fresh floral notes of our Birdsong candle to bring the magic of magnolia blossom into your home.

Bring the Outdoors In

With the weather finally warming up enough to fling open the windows and let the fresh air come flooding in, the arrival of spring is when we can start blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Greenery in any form will do the trick – think faux plants or trees, such as our Faux Large Potted Olive Tree, and botanical-inspired prints in your cushions and accessories.

Our Areca Scroll Tray could update your coffee table styling with its striking palm print, topped with a vase of our Faux Mophead Hydrangea Stems to bring in some seasonal foliage. Our Set of Six Floral Prints are perfect for creating a gallery wall, reflecting the flowers springing to life out in the garden.

Update Your Vignettes

The coffee table isn’t the only styled surface available for refreshing with spring energy. Creating a springtime mantelpiece arrangement or placing our Medium Bricini Vase with some spring blooms on the hallway side table are easy ways to achieve a fresh, curated look that speaks to the joys of the new season. Add to the effect by hanging a mirror behind, such as our floral Tansy Mirror, to reflect the light back into the room and make the most of the longer spring daylight hours.

Accessories are the finishing touch on your spring-ready aesthetic, so look for natural materials – such as our Large Fairfax Rattan Basket – and nature-inspired pieces such as our Pair of Muscaria Mushroom Bookends to complete the seasonal transformation.
